Unreal Euglena Workshop
A BioArt/BioGaming workshop in cooperation with Thomas Hawranke about playing with microorganisms (Euglena gracilis). The workshop is held at Bauhaus University Weimar, working with the DIY bioloab at the chair of Media Environments. In the workshop, we discuss potential game mechanics for playing with living organisms, and we build a simple prototype connecting Euglena gracilis to the Unreal Engine via a microscope, video tracking and DIY electronics.
Form & Code
A seminar at Fachhochschule Dortmund, University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Faculty of Design.
Walk/Play. Locative Arts and Games
A seminar at Bauhaus-University Weimar in cooperation with Thomas Hawranke that discusses and puts to use technologies and artistic/playful practices of dealing with space.
App Design and Programming
A seminar at Fachhochschule Dortmund, University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Faculty of Design.
Cyber/space. Localizations in art and science
“Projektmodul” at Bauhaus-University Weimar (Media Environments)
The project examines “cyber” and “space” as technological and scientific fields and subjects of artistic practice: Cybernetics, computer art, interaction, networks and space are put into relation to each other in order to develop contemporary positions in art and design – projects dealing with real and mediated space and the interconnections between both.
Dislocations
Laboratory on revealing, scanning, expanded audio-visible making of environments, objects and territories
Conceived and curated by Paidia Institute, Cologne. Hosted and produced by Noarte, San Sperate, Sardinia, Italy
With students of KHM, Academy of Media Arts Cologne, EESI Poitiers and Sint-Lucas Ghent.

Overview: Lectures and Seminars
Lectures and seminars at Köln International School of Design (KISD, as professor since 2018), San Francisco Art Institute (assistant professor 2015-2018), Bauhaus University Weimar (visiting professor in 2013), at the Department of Design of Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (2013-2014), and at the Academy of Media Arts (KHM) Cologne (2006-2012). Courses vary from introductory to graduate level and comprise foundations of programming and physical computing for the arts, generative design and interaction design, as well as media art and design projects.
Lectures within the curriculum of these schools are accompanied by workshops conducted in cooperation with other institutions.
Action Spaces
Architectures for humans, animals and machines
The seminar examines spaces as spaces for action, that are created by the interconnection of external architecture, physiological or technological perceptive systems and individual action patterns. Part of the seminar consists in a workshop at Palazzo Ricci in Montepulciano, Italy in summer 2012.
Living Matter
International summer school
KHM, Academy of Media Arts Cologne in cooperation with Free University Berlin.
July 18th-23rd, 2010
The summer school brings together artists and researchers who work in the context of biological laboratories. Besides methodological and theoretical discussions we want to stimulate the exchange between research in arts and humanities. We would also like to mediate experience of laboratory work by practical exercises, e.g. in Lab3, Laboratory for Experimental Computer Science. Therefore, the program includes project presentations by the participants, BioArt and laboratory workshops in addition to plenary and public lectures.
