Making AI Tangible and Comprehensible: Connecting Technology and Society Through Design – KITeGG
Since December 2021, KISD is part of a four-year BMBF project on design and artificial intelligence. The aim of the project is to establish a strong network of design departments and universities in order to sustainably anchor the teaching of AI topics and methods in the entire field of design.
The project pursues the goal of integrating the teaching of AI methods into the education and training of designers, so that they are able to use these methods reflectively as materials and tools of design. As »designers of the future« they should have knowledge of current and future relevant technologies as well as profound technical knowledge and the ability to systematically consider user contexts as well as ethical and legal issues. To do this, a cloud-based infrastructure for teaching and learning in the field of AI is being established in the project network, as well as a series of interdisciplinary laboratories. At KISD, the focus of the project is on the social contexts of the use of artificial intelligence on the one hand, and on the connection between AI and material in the design of intelligent objects and products on the other.
