Abstract
Cities, according to Guy Debord, “have psychogeographical contours, with constant currents, fixed points and vortexes that strongly discourage entry into or exit from certain zones.” They are liquid yet rigid. Urban space thus is neither defined by the geometric grid of Cartesian coordinates alone, nor is it purely relational. While this might always have been the case, media environments and locative media make once again apparent that space is a dynamic equilibrium. They play with rigid forms and dynamic processes and oscillate between the mapping of given environments and the tracing of activities that create the very space they inhabit.
